Important people in the gifted cluster
It takes a village to raise a child. And the students at Landstown High School are lucky to have great parents, wonderful administrators, and exceptional teachers. I could not begin to mention all of them in every newsletter. However, each month, I will try to spotlight some of them, beginning with the teachers in the gifted cluster.
Gifted students are clustered in several of their core subjects in grades 9 and 10. Juniors are intentionally clustered in AP/US History and VA/US History and naturally clustered in other AP classes, Math Analysis and Physics. The gifted cluster teachers receive training from the Gifted Resource Teacher in the characteristics of gifted students, gifted benchmarks and gifted pedagogy. They appreciate the strengths of gifted students and challenge them to think creatively and critically.

Mr. vader receives "I make a Difference award"
Robert Vader has received several awards since he began teaching history at Landstown High School Governor's STEM & Technology Academy. Patient, kind, admirable, respectful, and knowledgable--these are just some of the adjectives that gifted students use to describe Mr. Vader. Before the gifted cluster model was implemented at Landstown several years ago, I noticed that Mr. Vader was often "that teacher" who inspired young people to live up to their potential. Several studied history in college, and some pursued teaching careers because of Mr. Vader's influence. He was the first teacher I asked to teach in the gifted cluster. He certainly does make an enormous difference in the lives of young people.
